Jockey Sean Veale barely had to ask his mount a serious question, with Goliath Heron sauntering home to win a maiden juvenile plate over 1200m by four lengths, going away.

Trained, like his sire, by Dennis Drier, Goliath Heron had been third in a barrier trial previously and he confirmed the merit of that outing with an impressive victory on Sunday.

Bred by Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein, Goliath Heron was a R150 000 buy from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.

The colt was produced by the winning Silvano mare Water Bird –a full-sister to Bauhinia Handicap vixen Animated.

His sire Master Of My Fate is currently South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire by both earnings and winners.

Winner of six of his eight starts, including both the G2 Premier Trophy and G2 Peninsula Handicap, Master Of My Fate’s previous winners include Lucky Dancer, Twist Of Fate and eye catching debut winner Master Keys.

The handsome bay also had a smart update to his pedigree when his close relative Ghaalla (a R5 000 000 yearling buy) made a winning debut over 1160m for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and trainer Mike de Kock.

A daughter of Var, Ghaalla is out of the winning Captain Al mare Fidelity –a half-sister to Master Of My Fate.

A son of champions Jet Master and Promisefrommyheart, Master Of My Fate has 16 yearlings on the April Yearling Sale and 25 lots on the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
