Article from Cape Breeders: Varsfontein Stud’s prominent More Than Ready was responsible for a second G1 Daily News 2000 winner, in the last three years, when his champion son Got The Greenlight captured the 2020 Daily News 2000 at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.
Gimmethegreenlight’s now Australia based son Surcharge became his sire’s first Daily News winner when he triumphed in the 2018 renewal.
Last season’s Equus Champion 2YO Colt, the Joey Soma trained Got The Greenlight made it win number six, from just 12 starts, with a one and a half length win in Sunday’s 2000m race.
Unbeaten in two starts at Hollywoodbets Greyville, Got The Greenlight was steered to victory by Bernard Fayd’Herbe, with the latter now unbeaten in two starts on the colt.
The brilliant colt, third in the G1 SA Derby at his penultimate start, had won the G1 SA Classic (where he beat fellow Gimmethegreenlight sons Green Laser and Youcanthurrylove) earlier in the season, and was also victorious in last season’s G1 Premiers Champion Stakes.
Out of the Commands mare Command Chi, Got The Greenlight has now earned R2 038 000 in prize money.
Got The Greenlight was one of two feature race winners for Gimmethegreenlight, South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2015-2016, on Sunday with the former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate also responsible for Sunday’s Listed Gatecrasher Stakes winner Gold Season (his daughter Lady Of Steel provided Gimmethegreenlight with yet more black type by finishing third in Sunday’s G1 Woolavington 2000).
