Article courtesy of Cape Breeders Club website: The progeny of Varsfontein Stud’s exciting young sire Gimmethegreenlight enjoyed marked success over the past few days, with the son of More Than Ready’s stock proving successful both on the track and in the sales ring.

Last season’s Champion First Crop Sire, Gimmethegreenlight is the sire of the very exciting filly Green Pepper, who made it four wins from just five outings when waltzing to victory in Saturday’s G3 Daily Sun Magnolia Handicap.

Trained by Johan Janse Van Vuuren, the Varsfontein Stud bred filly simply outclassed a high class field of fillies and mares to notch up her second consecutive feature race (Green Pepper had won the Listed Gardenia Stakes at her previous outing).

Saturday’s win pushed Green Pepper ‘s earnings to over R580 000, and she is the third graded winner to have emerged from her sire’s sensational first crop, which also produced G1 Premier’s Champion Stakes hero Gunner and the G2 winner Hack Green.

Bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Fort Wood cross as G2 Umkhomazi Stakes winner Hack Green, Green Pepper’s dam Pimento is a half sister to SA Oaks winner Sabina Park, dam of dual G1 Summer Cup winner Master Sabina.

Master Sabina, also raised on Varsfontein, shares the same granddam as Green Pepper.

Gimmethegreenlight also enjoyed notable success in the sales ring last week, when his progeny proved hugely popular at the CTS Johannesburg Ready To Run Sale.
One colt by the sire was knocked down to Mayfair Speculators for R700 000, while another colt by Gimmethegreenlight was sold to Dusty Trail Investments for R550 000.

The former G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate had seven lots fetch a gross total of R1 920 000 and he ended the two day sale as the fifth top sire by aggregate.
