Varsfontein stallions enjoyed a feature race double this past weekend, with Judpot being responsible for Sunday’s G3 Jubilee Handicap winner Coral Fever, and Gimmethegreenlight sire of Friday’s Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes winner Queen Forever.
Coral Fever, whose Grade 3 win saw him supplemented to the G1 Vodacom Durban July, produced a fine turn of foot under Mauritian bound jockey Muzi Yeni to land the G3 Jubilee Handicap by 1.1 lengths going away.
Bred by the Ascot Stud, Coral Fever has now won four of 12 outings and banked more than R400Â 000 in prize money.
He was a R130 000 buy from the 2014 National Sale and is the fifth black type performer to have emerged from Judpot’s current four-year-old crop, which also includes G1 winning filly Juxtapose and G1 SA Derby runner up Rocketball, as well as G1 Garden Province nominee Polyphonic.
Judpot’s stable mate Gimmethegreenlight has enjoyed a fantastic season in 2016-2017 and was represented by yet another stakes winner when the Varsfontein Stud bred Queen Forever picked up her first black type win when landing the Listed Lady’s Slipper Stakes in a driving finish.
Queen Forever is the second stakes winner to have emerged from her sire’s second crop, with the other being G2 SA Fillies Nursery winner Green Plains.
