Varsfontein Stud’s well related and popular young sire Master Of My Fate received yet another boost to his impressive pedigree when Captain Splendid won Sunday’s G3 World Sports Betting East Cape Derby at Fairview.
That Captain Al gelding, who races for Fred Crabbia and who was bred by Varsfontein, is out of Justthewayyouare –a stakes winning half sister to Master Of My Fate himself.
Captain Splendid, an R800 000 buy from the 2014 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, has now won or placed in six of his eight starts.
His dam, Justthewayyouare, was a high class racemare, whose four wins included the Listed Spook Express Handicap.
A daughter of champion sire and broodmare sire Fort Wood, she is out of Elliodor’s champion daughter Promisefrommyheart.
The latter, South Africa’s Equus Champion 3YO Classic Female in 2003, won six times including the G1 SA Fillies Guineas, G1 Triple Tiara 1600m, G2 Ipi Tombe Challenge and G2 (now G1) Woolavington Stakes.
Promisefrommyheart is the dam of the top class performer Master Of My Fate (a son of seven times champion sire Jet Master). The top priced colt sold at the 2011 National Sale (he fetched R3 000 000), Master Of My Fate won six of just eight career outings, with his wins including both the G2 Premier Trophy and G2 Peninsula Handicap.
Master Of My Fate, who won from 1200-1800m, is from an excellent family with his relatives also including the Equus Champions Kings Gambit and London News –both of whom won big races overseas.
This is also the family of G2 Breeders’ Cup Turf Juvenile winner Pluck (a son of More Than Ready –also sire of Master Of My Fate’s stable mate Gimmethegreenlight). Pluck is currently one of the leading first crop sires in Australasia.
Another prominent member of this family is G1 Majorca Stakes winner Covenant, who had a Var colt fetch R2 000 000 at the recent National Yearling Sale.
