On Wednesday 13 August the 2013/2014 season culminated in an evening to celebrate the stars and outstanding performers in our industry at the Equus Awards. Varsfontein was represented by two nominees. The Judpot filly, Along Came Polly, was nominated as Champion Three Year Old Filly and Yorker was nominated four times in the following categories: Champion Middle Distance Horse, Champion Miler, Champion Older Male and Horse Of The Year. He was awarded the title of Champion Older Male. Our congratulations go to all the connections.
Carl & Amanda De Vos, breeders of Yorker, not only enjoyed this achievement but were also awarded the Champion Broodmare award for Star Of Arcole as well as the Outstanding Breeder award. The Foveros mare produced in this season her third oaks winner in Ash Cloud. Prior to Ash Cloud were Princess Of Light (2011 Gold Circle Oaks) and Arcola (2010 SA Oaks). With a mere 11 runners representing them, Carl and Amanda ended up at 12th place on the National breeders log at the close of the season. Listed amoungst large studs with hundreds of runners, their 11 runners managed to earn a total of just over R5,2 million and included graded winners Jet Aglow, Ash Cloud and Yorker. What a phenomenal achievement!!
