Varsfontein Stud Farm

Varsfontein Stud lies at the foot of the Perdeberg mountain, nestled amongst the vineyards and wheat lands of the Boland in the Western Cape. The farm has a rich history and has been operating as a Thoroughbred breeding operation since 1974. Over the years Varsfontein has grown and is currently one of the largest producers of Thoroughbred racehorses in South Africa. Varsfontein Stud prides itself in quality bloodlines and over the years has built up a reputable broodmare band, not only from proven home-bred families but also new blood from fillies purchased locally or imported from Europe. The progeny of these mares are offered annually on various yearling sales, but a select few are retained to race in the red and white Varsfontein Silks. Pride of place is held by our resident stallions which have brought so much value to not only the farm itself, but to the South African Thoroughbred industry as a whole. The farm exudes a tranquil and beautiful atmosphere with flowing lawns stretching beneath old oak trees beside traditional Cape style buildings and stables. However, behind these peaceful scenes, our team are hard at work to ensure that top class racehorses are being produced and presented in a professional manner.
